Default CRASH TESTED 954

So I'm out riding my favorite road today... same twisties, perfect weather... when all of a sudden I approach two riders on the side of the road. Curious, I stop to check in, they want me to ride with them after a few minutes of talking (gixxer 1000 and a gixxer 750). the 1k is experienced and the 750 is not. I end up in the back of the bunch. after about 3 turns the guy in the front speeds up to go through a quick right-left 2 phase turn... well the guy in the middle doesn't do so well and ends up kicking up gravel from the shoulder, but he never goes down. I, unfortunately, hit the gravel in the middle of the lefty so of course... i goes down. hard.

basically I'm lucky enough to say that the bike is pretty much okay. The windshield came out, and both left side blinkers were broken off but otherwise just some scratches. I was wearing my helmet and my joe rocket jacket so my person wasn't injured except for my right hand is pretty scraped up. I have pretty huge hands so I don't have any gloves which is why I wasn't wearing them, but now I'm definitely going to invest.

The bike tumbled about 10 feet off the road and ended up in some woods, but I started it up and road home. I didn't think to get any pics whilst fallen but I have a picture of the bike after the accident when its on the road. I'll post it up soon.

yeah I hate freakin idiot drivers as well... I wouldn't have gone down any other way except I was riding behind them. I learned my lesson... I'm taking the lead from now on.

I do have a question for you guys though... my friend said I should probably buy a new helmet because I don't know if it hit the pavement or not. Its scratched up but I think that's from the grass I slid in. Its not cracked anywhere, the visor didn't even come off. Should I invest in a new cap or do without?

i would personally invest in a new helmet. even though you might not have not scratched it badly it can have internal damage. after i wrecked my bike last year my helmet just tapped the ground and got scratched. i dont know how hard i hit the ground though on my head but it did hit. so i went home and about a week later put the helmet on and ran full force into a brick wall. the helmet scratched just a little bit but it had a 230 lb body hit a brick wall. i know it had to suffer internal damage but didnt show it on the outside. so just to say if you wreck, get a new helmet. a couple hundred bucks its your life you know what i mean.....oh yea this was a shoei too...

you could have another wreck one day with the same helmet, hit the same spot you scratched in the previoud wreck and possibly die because there was internal damage to the helmet and it didnt protect your skull....better to be safe than sorry

Buy a new one.

Glad you are ok, but it's your head and well-being that is involved on this. If it was a set of boots or a jacket that was skuffed or gashed I would say ride them till you can afford a nice new one, but not when it come to a helmet.

I have gone down once myself. Same situation. I hit gravel in a righty and went down. It was either that or a tree head on. From that moment on I made sure people understood the gravel "sign" when riding in tandum.

I went up to the Honda dealership by my house and found a brand new KBC RR Dark helmet for 100 bucks... they threw in a pair of $99 Joe Rockets for $39 just for kicks and I'm probly gonna go pick up a Joe Rocket jacket for my girlfriend regular $199 for $129... I love sales!
