Default CBR 954rr engine swap for 929 engine

Hello guys I'm new to cbr forum. I ride Triumph st 1050 but recently bought cbr 954 with crappy engine. I cant find decent 954 replacement but there is a few 929 low mileage engines for sale so I was thinking about fitting bare 929 engine with all 954 gear in to my bike. I heard that the only difference between this two bare naked engines is 1mm cylinder bore. I dont know if this is true. Maybe someone has done similar swap before and could answer my questions. I know people usually do the other way 954 engine with ecu, throttle bodies etc. in to 929 frame .....It might sounds strange but for me its a lot easier to find 929 engine in good shape rather than rebuild or buy 954. Please help me with my issue if you can.

There is more than just the bore size that is different internally, but they are not really an issue. You would need to swap all of the external components to the 929 motor, which is done easily. Your biggest hang up will be getting the 954 swingarm on the 929 case. It's not impossible, but some modification will need to be done.

thanks for replay
I thought that it is a straight swap. I was planning to use all 954 components to be honest. (ecu, throttles, air box etc.) just swap core engine. I read somewhere that someone has done it and after all just retuned the engine. Looks like it is not so easy. I'm trying to avoid full rebuild for two reasons It cost a fortune and not always work. It is 16 years sports bike so it is difficult to find decent second hand engine.

Hi, did you do the 929 swap? I'm just about to embark on the same . Was told a couple of sensors are in the wrong place so need your extend their wires. And coolant hose layout is a bit different.. other than that a straight swap

Default Works

I did swap few years back. Someone adviced me to use 929 swing arm so I did. If Im not wrong I had to change alternator plug and that was it. Everything else plug and play in my case. Bike started no issues. Working till today.( I bought whole engine including covers mannifold etc. not just core) Hope it helps
