Hmm, propably better that way, looks fiddly to make a gasket there since there isn't one originally...

I agree Mattson. Well I hope I did everything right. I'm kinda worried I'd still get a leak somewhere.

if the spread of the stuff was even enough, you let it cure for long enough and tighten the bolts in a circular fashion from center to the sides I'd think the possibility is somewhat small, after all the gap between properly tightened parts is almost microscopical...

Listen to these guys bro, why make life difficult for yaself when a small slither of instant gasket will do a much better job.

just because there is not a gasket, does not mean there is nothing there. even though it's a machine fit surface, generally, there is always some use of engine shellac by the factory. it's not as thick as silicone, but it does do something. using hi - temp (red) silicone is a good idea, especially after you've cleaned off the casing with a razor.

good job, i'm sure that you won't have a leak, and you certainly didn't cause one by using silicone.

Well I started the bike up after letting it cure for 24 hours. Had it idle for around 10 minutes and so far so good...the real test would have to be when I give it a short ride. Hope it holds.
