954 RR - 520 Conv. with 54 rear and 15 front
Hello, I'm new to this forum and didn't want to search through all the threads. I have a 2002 CBR 954 RR and currently have a 15 front sprocket and 45 rear sprocket. I spun 4 teeth off of my rear sprocket with a loose chain. I'm thinking about upping my rear sprocket to 54 but keeping the same size front sprocket.Iam also doing a 520 conv. and am concerned aboutthecc rating on the chain. I want more torque for wheelies and stunting and was wanting ADVISE or CONCERNS about this drastic jump in sprocket size.
Thanks in advance for all the posts.

RE: 954 RR - 520 Conv. with 54 rear and 15 front
Taken from HAI Bikeshop's website:
520 has the advantage of being lighter weight and increasing performance just from the loss of rotating mass. However, the thinner profile does have a shorter life expectancy than a thicker 525 or 530.
(Increase in rear sprocket teeth)
+5 – Provides a good place to start for anybody looking to get a little more into the stunts without sacrificing street riding or too much top speed. Will gain some torque/acceleration while losing roughly 10% of top speed.
+10 - Provides good amounts of power for slower wheelies while still having decent street riding. Will gain good torque/acceleration while losing roughly 20% of top speed.
+15 – Provides great power for technical slow wheelies. Street riding will be reduced to moderation in the city limits. No highways. Will gain great torque/acceleration while losing roughly 30% of top speed.
+20 - Provides huge power for anything and everything technical. Street riding will be reduced to just parking lots. Not for beginners. Will gain huge torque/acceleration while losing roughly 40% of top speed.
+25 or bigger – Ridiculous… but fun. Go big.
Beware of first gear with your new sprocket! [sm=shootshoot.gif]

stunting will take alot of abuse.. so get steel sprockets and a good chain.. also what speed do you want to do wheelies..stunting.. the slower you wanna go.. the bigger you go in rear sprocket.. i did the -1 +2 first.. then went to a -1 +5 .. to make it a 48 in the rear. .i did stand up wheelies in 4th gear.. but also limited my top end quite a bit..
so what speeds do u wanna be at

I just went -1 +2 this year, i only got to ride for about 50 miles. I would have to say for my riding its about perfect, although just -1 would be just fine too. Highway wheelies at 65-70mph in 4th gear are super easy now and good control, i think going any more though would be silly, at least for me.

RE: 954 RR - 520 Conv. with 54 rear and 15 front
I've been riding my 954 for about 3 years now and have had a hard time trying to pull 3rd gear wheelies with my -1 +2 for some reason. I want to be able to pull wheelies at slower speeds and be able to pull them up in higher gears at faster speeds. I haven't bought the sprockets yet but am still concidering the 54 rear, but I may end up only going up somewhere between 5-10. So keep the input coming and I thank you guys for all your knowledge.

Walker as far as making your gear choice i will just state that -1 +2 will for a fact wheelie 3rd gear (sitting down). You will have to be a little higher in the revs then 1st or 2nd gear, but it will go up. Now if your havin trouble you could add another tooth or 2 in back, but yourgonna lose more top end. You know how you ride and if thats acceptable or not, butin case there was doubt about the gearing i just wanted to point it out.
