Default 954 mods

I've owned my 954 since I bought it new in 2003, and I love my bike. I see all these different mods in the forum, what can you recommend for me to get my 954 to run better (faster or smoother). I heard of a flapper mod, but don't know why or what it will do. Also heard of a valve mod, there are a couple of guys on here that look like they have these mods and I dont know what is best for my bike. She only has a two brothers slip on and has 4500 original miles on it.

flapper mod is taking the piece out of the airbox. when you open up the airbox, you'll have to unscrew the flap. you'll see. then you take the cable out, find a bolt that fits the cable hole in the airbox and you're done.

you won't notice any difference except it being louder (maybe)

still worth it though. i hate useless junk on a motorcycle.... and that is EXACTLY what that flapper thing is - junk.

I gather you have a power commander..... i would also invest in a Gilles Shift Holder, i have one and the gear changes are a lot smoother and it helps to maintain the gear box. I have also fitted (or had fitted) an Ohlins rear shock and had both this and the front suspension set up properly.... night and day difference. What ever mods you do, ensure they are quality ones, no tat..... i.e coloured nuts..... iridium screen..... etc etc.

The best mods are the ones that are not obvious and do not stand out when you look at the bike..... quality not quantity.

One of the best mods I did was to go to a reverse shift.Makes my shifting so much more smoother. But the best has been having my suspension set up for my riding style.Night and day difference.

I was hoping that removing the flapper would get rid of the surge of power over 3,000 rpms. I assume this is the flapper opening. I hate that feeling in first gear when I leaned over.

Mine got worse after I removed the flapper.
