he doesn't have 180 hp.

and all that he's saying is that the bike is plenty capable of running with the current crop of bikes with just a few mods (mainly suspension). if he can get the throttle opened quicker - and can go WOT when current bike guys have the throttle at 70% or something, he's quicker. and it's most likely more down to who he is on the bike vs. the other guys on their bikes.

put a busa with a turbo (like 230rwhp) on a circuit track and a 600 would spank it. that doesn't mean the 600 has anywhere close to 230hp, it just means the 600 is a really capable bike.

you can get 180hp out of a 954.... but you better have a TON of money... and if we're talking N/A - it sure as hell won't be 954cc anymore. it'll be 1052cc (big bore + stroke) with copious amounts of money into the head. the cams would have to be so aggressive that you'd probably hate riding it around town (below 5000rpms).

a turbo though.... still hella money, but would be pretty reliable.

All these things listed above aren't engine mods. By engine mods, I understand replacing stock parts with light weight like cam shafts as a simple basis. Or removing unnecessary parts, like the charging system (alternator), starter motor...you name it.
But everything you've listed, I've got in my bike and even more up to the superstock spec (not everything ofc due to $$) but no engine tuning. Just because if you go with engine tuning, then you need lots of money and you wouldn't be putting messages in 954 thread, as you'll probably be worried about the latest yoshimura parts for your gixxer, or the cutting-edge electronics of magneti marelli.

i run track days on mine also. nothing special just a gpr dampner and my suspension set for me (sag-preload) otherwise its pretty much stock. i changed the rearsets after draging the factory pegs, and did a 520 conversion last time it needed a chain. it rails around jennings and barber, i could never get comfortable at road atlanta though.
ajzcamaro dave moss is supposed to be at jennings in march i think its on their calender. however thermosman is where mine are going in a couple weeks!

vid at barber motorsports park skip to 4.30 i forgot to fuel up before i went out

shinko's of course!

i was running the corsa 3 but they slid around a little to much for me, i picked up some ntek 211 gp take offs and been running the 211 for over a year only time they moved was at full lean and i hammered the throttle. well worth the money IMHO

here is a vid at jennings from easter 2011 i was videoing a friend on the gsxr but could only run slow for a few laps then id pass

I run the same kinda catch bottle you got there behind the front tire. Sure have to replace them a lot though....
