What next? I really haven't done much to the bike, but I want something that will pop. I'm really not a chrome guy, I'm more of a flat black, or black powder coat. Should I go with looks, or performance. I've already replaced some plastic, It had been laid down when I bought it. Undertail? Fix the front fairing? Jump in with both feet and powder coat the frame and swing arm? Or maybe new exhaust? I dunno. Got an outage coming up, and that means $$$$$$$OVERTIME$$$$$$$. What do y'all think?

I'd start with performance or things that are functional. Like frame sliders and such.

 

i would definately add some protection with frame sliders. as far as performance, get a power commander and exhaust and filter. and make sure to adjust your suspension for your weight and riding style (this will do alot more than you think), maybe even a suspension rebuild or upgrade. and maybe a steering damper. and maybe add some good tires if you need them. and get an undertail if you dont have one. thats about it.

 

I'm actually thinking of changing exhaust, but I have a k&n filter, and just changed tires (pirelli diablo). With aftermarket filter and exhaust change, do I need some kind of tuning? What will I be able to see with power commander, filter, and exhaust? Definitly(sp) doing frame sliders. what do you mean change suspension to weight and riding style? What do I need to do? Sorry, I feel like I'm sucking the knowlege right out of the room.

 

ur first and most important investment on a 929 is a good steering dampner it is a must , as the 929 is notrious for tank slappers, and trust me if u make it through one u will be pretty lucky . As for a power commander , if u put ur 929 on a dyno u will see some pretty harsh power curves they were not a smooth bike when it came to power curves, i.e as ur bike goes through its rev range u will see some spots that jump up real fast u want a nice smooth curve , so a power commander can fix that with a series of runs and programming at ur local shop with a dyno . Especially if u put an aftermarket full exhaust on OR remove the xup valve and put a straight through. a k and n airfilter doesnt really affect any power curves so if thats all u have then dont sweat it.
Frame sliders are good money well spent for that unexpected drop it will save a hell of a lot of money if u low side ur bike as it will save mostof ur fairings and other stuff from being totally destroyed. as far as undertail its pretty much all for looks, it does serve a bit of a purpose but there is no way u could ride that bike to its full potential so its not like ur gain from one would be noticable..
id opt for real good gear somewhere in all your purchases me nor any of the guys in our group ride(no matter how hot of a day or short of a trip) with out full gear . ive been down at 200 ks and if i didnt have that stuff on id a been really messed up, a good one or 2 piece suit with armor and any other added bonuses is worth its weight in gold. Even goin down at a slower speed can hurt just as much road rash is a bitch.
just my 2 cents , i say protection first, then performance , then looks, and to start off with a sterring stabilizer and gear if u dont have some already is ur best bet... have fun happy newyears

 

oh ya suspension can be adjusted a million ways first off all u have to set it to ur body weight if ur a big guy soft suspension is gonna be sloppy , u want to set it to ur weight then, if u ride agressively start tightining and stiffining it, if u ride really bumpy roads start adjusting ur rebound , if ur into high speed cornering and racing like i am then u may wanna drop ur front end down just a bit , it works great on 929s to give it a lil more dive into those corners . any shop should be able to help u set ur suspension up for your size and riding needs , i know here in canada they will charge u bout 50 bucks it doesnt take long , and u will noticed an instant difference , and adjustments u have to do after that is minimal just to fine tune it ...

If I were to do it all again I would try to get the suspension redone right off the bat. However, exhaust and PCIII would be right up there on the top of the list. Save all the cosmetic crap for last and spend your money on performance mods.

Sorry to dig 'er up... But while searching, I found this, and I just have to ask... does anyone have a steering damper they want to to part with? (PM me)

Also, Im noticing those "Harsh power curves" in my 929... I'd like to make the power curve more linear, is there anything other than a PCIII that I can do to it?
