I went to start my bike after work today and the gauges, headlight, and taillight didn't light up. It would do this before, but I replaced the battery and it seemed to fixed it. When I hit the ignition switch there would be a weird buzzing sound coming somewhere in the front of the bike and the gauges would light up, but nothing else. Any help would be appreciated, especially since I had to leave it parked overnight at work [:@].

 

Also, the bike does start and runs fine, just electrical problem.

 

Pulled all the fuses, cleaned them, and they all look good. The noise I heard is coming from Fuse Box A but I pulled the fuse and it's fine. It's almost like a clicking/starting noise coming from that area, I think it's from the Fuse Box A. This is when I hold down the ignition switch, is when I heard the noise. Anyway, what would cause this? Thanks.

 

Have you checked the voltage of the battery?

Check that main relay that +12V from the battery goes to. Sould be to the side of the fuses. Put your hand on it and you'll feel if it's the one clicking like crazy. If it is you'll have to look for a loose connection that triggers that relay. I belive it's a +12V that routes through the kill switch, starter switch, and low beams.

 

On the relay that vwmaniacvr6is talking about, there should be a 30 amp fuse there if I remember right. One thing you can do to see if the battery is good, is take a screwdriver or a piece 10 awg wire or a decent size wire and jump across the two termnials on the relay. I probably would make sure it's not in gear andthenif the motor turns over then you know the battery isn't just totaly dead and we will have to look at another reason why it won't turn over.

 

Sorry I didn't give you a holler yesterday I got busy! Anyway, the bike magically works now. I experienced something similar because I replaced the battery: The bike would turn on fine and then about 1-2 min after starting the bike the headlight and taillight would work. What's weird about the whole thing is the turn signals (I have the LED Tail Light with turns integrated) ALWAYS come on regardless. Anyway I checked that relay and the fuse is good, I will have to check the connections.

One problem is I bought the bike from a kid and the brake light wasn't working. So we ended up running a constant from the front switch to the battery and then to the rear brake so it would work. There are a few connectors by the battery that aren't plugged into anything. If anyone knows how many 'HV' the battery should have, I tested it and it came back 31 HV's when the bike was running and then 28 HV with the brights on. Didn't move for turn signals or brake light, so don't know the significance of that.

 

Well it did it again yesterday, which makes me think it's a loose cable. But when I started the bike this morning it started fine, but when I come to a stop (atleast when the bike it cold) it just dies and it reluctantly starts back up. I am just a little bit confused as to what it could be, any help would be appreciated.

 

my bike was doing weird stuff like that. i would start the bike up and the headlight wouldnt come on. i would shut it off and start i again. do it like 3 or4 time and everthing would be good for a week or so, then it would happen again. it turned out that i had a bad ground wire that was touching a power wire and powering the the ground for the headlights. it also sounds like you are having wiring problems anyway. its probly something simple as a dirty ground on the frame or in a plug. good luck finding it.
