HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP
To chime in with "sixs929", I replaced my stator at a cost of $300 for the OEM one but I thought it was the Reg/Rec and bought one of those first. Ha Ha...my bike fooled me. It was the stator! Did I mention I replaced the battery too. Oh and you can get a "lower quality" stator for around $150. Hope this helps! I still have a spare Reg/Rec if any one can use one.
Frozen1, how much do u want for the reg/rec? I had the same problem as u guys a week or so ago and don't have the tools to figure out if its the stator, reg/rec or the battery so I just figured I'd pay the lil bit to get the shop to tell me which it is. I should hear back form them Fri hopefully so if its the reg/rec I'm interested.
Lantern, if you just google something along the lines of "electrical tests regulator stator motorcycle" you'll find some charts and procedures to find out which one is the source of your problem. All you need really is a ohmmeter and a fully charged battery I believe. I just don't have access to those on campus.

bunch of stators on ebay right now for less then 20$ i had same problem ended up being the stator.. also pull your seat off and the plastic cover underneath it. i had my new stator wire burn up as well. i ended up getting rid of the plugs and solder the wires together and haven't had a problem since.
Yeah 01 929ForSale's right about the google idea, and it doesn't take fancy equipment, at least in this case. I have the Haynes Manual (as well as the Honda shop manual) and I followed the checkout procedure for the charging system - the stator stood out like a sore thumb just using an ohmmeter. I can run you through the procedure, but it would be better for you (and everybody who owns a 929) to get the Haynes manual - nice clear illustrations and text, with great diagrams.
