Fork Seals- Please help
For a while now i have had a leaking fork seal and figured id wait to replace it.. i just got back from a trip to florida and while i was down there the right seal(the one leaking) got really bad, to the point where it was all over my bike and now it is no longer leaking. im assuming i need new seal and am not riding it till its fixed... anyone have info on this, like what parts i need( oil, seals, etc..) and possibly how hard it is to do it on ur own and how to do it??? id appreciate any help! thanks!
If you buy OEM seals then they come with the dust seals. When you change them (providing you do it yourself) be very carefull to put the oil seals in the right way. You'll know if they aren't since they will not go down far enough. Follow the manual and it is an easy enough job. you probably ran out of fluid and that is why they may have appeared to just stop leaking. Check your brake parts when you getthem apart for any contamination from the fork oil. It's probably better for your safety to never let them get to this point again
Good luck

ok..... i have my forks off of my bike, holy s**t was it a hassle, not necessarily hard but when you dont have the right support it blows.. used ratched straps around the front of my frame and a stand for the back.. now off to the shop for god knows how long for the seal change
I stand corrected... The seals do need to be put in with a seal driver, if it goes in too easy then it's the wrong way.... I blew a fork today because of this (damn wheelies)... there is a rib on the outer part of the seal that must be directed to the top of the bike (when installing on fork) a simple test that confirmed my doubt was if you slide the seal up and down the shaft, it will be resistant to the direction you want to keep the oil in (towards the top of bike).. Aside from this it is a very easy procedure.
