Default Engine no Start

Hey Guys (and ladies )

I bought a Honda cbr 929 a while ago and was currently fixing it up for rego. I took the rear under tail off and diconnected all the wires and harnesses to put on an afer market undertail. Long story short, connected all the wires back up but when i try to start the bike nothing happens.

Taking into consideration it took maybe 3 - 4 months to fit this undertail properly, the battery was sitting on a plastic box and the wires have been just sitting there.

So basically the engine wont turn over. When i turn the key to on and turn the kill switch off, the electric fuel pump turns on and when i try to start the bike the lights dim and and the display goes off.

When i connect a trickle charger to the terminals on the bike while the bttery is in there. I turn the lights on and they appear to be brighter and when i try to turn the enigne over i can hear the starter relay ticking over like mad but nothing else.

I have the workshop manual but it doesn't really trouble shoot this problem. could really use some help.

Any ideas?

try fully charging the battery or you can even jump it from a car (not running)to see if it will start. you could just have a dead battery

The battery is only 6 months old if that. I tried turning the bike over with the ttrickle charger attached and the stater relay just kept clicking. But the enginge didn't seem to try to turn over

Concealed batteriesaren't always charged 100% (new), even when they say they are. They also drain fast. I had the same problem, it was the battery.
I bought a charger from Wal-Mart ($30 or $40) and charged to 100% worked perfect. Starting the bike drains a lot on the battery. If you start the bike a bunch with out running the crap out of it, it'll kill the battery. I thought mine was the stator, turned out to be a poorly charged battery. So run the crap out of it when you start it. The battery on these bikes needs to be 100% to function properly. Use a good charger, forget that little trickle charger.

i recently had a similar issue and it was the stator .. check the coil resistance against the shop manual specs .. if it is out then you will know what to do

batterys can drain fast and sometimes your trickle charger just isnt enough "umph" to get it going. so try a car battery and if that doesnt work , search for the link on here to cbrworld and their is a posting from "abadfish" and it runs down how to diagnose your electrical system.

our systems consist of Stator (alternator), Battery and Regulatory(rectifier).. one when starts to go bad it causes a weakness in the others and can lead to premature failure. as you pointed out your battery is only 6 months old if that. still replacing (recharging) the battery is the cheapest option. then the reg/rec then the stator.
