Different Tires for Front and Rear

Different Tires for Front and Rear
I know this might be a stupid question, but how bad is it to use two different tires for your front and rear?? I know that having a tread difference could probably cause some problems in wet conditions. What about dry conditions?? Would the compound differences cause problems?? Thanks a lot!

From what i know you shouldnt notice the difference. While it is usually recomended to have at least matching brands, the only differece i know of beside tread is the side wall height.
EDIT: before the technical junkies jump in, the rubber compund is different too

RE: Different Tires for Front and Rear
Well, even though it is not the optimal solution, I used to do this all the time a few bikes ago (FZR600). Never had a problem, even in the rain- however, some of the tires now are designed to work as a pair for water dispersion. I think the Metzeler Sportec M3's are like this, and that's what I have on the 929 now.
Some brands seem to have different general shapes, more pointed, more rounded, so your results may vary if you pick the wrong combination.
