Default Common problem areas/ is it worth it

I currently own an F2 but saw a 929 in my area for sale cheap. It has a salvage title, getting more info as to why. He states the bike has sat for awhile but runs. In the pics it looks in fairly good shape. Just wondering what to look for when/if i go see it. Problem areas to look at things like that. 929 cbr take a look and let me know. when i get more info ill let you know

Look for "structure" damage...IE: frame, subframe, and swingarm damage. Look for leaks from the motor (Leaking hoses arent a big deal, rubber hoses are cheap) like cracked blocks. Look for discoloration in the oil and radiator. By the looks of it the bike was totaled because of fairing damage (Scratching all fairings will "total" out a sportbike). As long as the frame is undamaged and the motor is good I wouldnt to much worry about cosmetics. You can get a set of fairings for under 600. Only problem areas with our bikes are tires! They go to damn fast! These bikes if not completely abused (ive abused and babied mine) will ride for ever with minimal maintenance. Check it out and before buying bring all issues here so we can get you straight.....

Be a little careful and check your state laws regarding a salvage title if you plan on registering it. When I built mine up, if I had used a frame with a salvage title I would have needed receipts to prove that the frame, motor, forks, and some other part all came from different sources to get a clean title and register it. I held out for a frame that already had a clean title; it's sketchy, but gets around those pesky laws. That's a Michigan bike hate thing, so you might be fine. Otherwise if all else is good that txs mentioned take a quick peek at the white connector for the stator/rectifier. It should be on the left side under the seat by the subframe. Some like to melt down on people.

i started to check on our laws. its not to terrible to get a salvage rebuilt title which will then be clear to ride on the road
