cbr929 rat bike, hard starting
I've owned a number of 929s and 954s
At one point I had the brilliant idea of using all the old/spare parts I had laying around to build an entire bike. As a full time mechanic, I have really enjoyed this project.
I'm getting close to finished but there are a few kinks, and it's time you know exactly what we're dealing with.
929 frame
yam r1 front end
929 motor
954 swingarm
929 airbox
929 tank and fuel pump
954 ecu
954 harness
954 coils
954 throttle bodies
954 stator
954 flywheel
954 erion 4 dog transmission
954 stock exhaust (snapped off by rear hanger)
954 velocity stacks
Bike runs but is rough up to about 7000 rpm, and is neigh on impossible to start way too rich. Over 7krpm it's smooth and pulls just has hard as my 03 954 track bike. I've built the engine from the ground up, all new bearings, rings etc... I have about 50 miles on it since the first start. I'll tell you that it bogs like crazy to 5000 rpm.
Does anyone know a quick fix to starting this beast?
Does anyone have a map for the PCIIIusb that would make it start-able?

I noticed a big difference with them and without. On my 980 removing them made the first 4000 rpm:s useless. Maybe it could have been sorted out with fueling but didn't even try it. With them it pulls straight from idle (1600-1700 rpm) which is kind of strange with the cams i have. Speed hasn't anything to do with it. 929/954 doesn't have a ram air so there isn't any pressure in the airbox. And probably the fueling is allso way off. Have you checked the FPR?

That's where I was going with my first post. I wonder if there's an issue with rail pressure. But your post about the ram air is interesting. It seems odd that it'd make that much of a difference, but if you say it does, then it's worth trying it out considering the bike in question pulls nicely in the upper RPMs.
