Default aftermarket stator or not

I have a '00 929 with a bum stator. As many know the OEM replacement is quite expensive ($230 or more). I have read here that many people have problems with the charging system ranging from R/R to stator and both. I have found the Electrosport aftermarket product and from what I haveread it seems to garner very mixed reviews, but is much more affordable. Does anyone have one of these in their machine currently? How many trouble free miles has it gone, or has it been trouble free? Does the aftermarket stator and stock R/R play well together? I don't mind spending the extra green on the OEM if the Electrosport product is going to be a clunker.

Furthermore, if anyone is parting out a 929 and want to sell me the stator I would be all over it.

Thanks

I just had this problem. Seriously. I fixed it about 2 hours ago. I did all of the resistence tests and what not. It finally boiled down to me replacing the stator. I purchased both aftermarket rectifier and stator. The only problem I encountered was that the holes on the aftermarket stator didn't all line up due to the way the wire was spun on the backside. I was able to torque 3 bolts down to the inside of the cover. I could have drilled out the hole for the fourth bolt but it is stationary anyway (meaning the flywheel is what is rotating). I just got back from testing it and have had no problems.

I ended up cheaping out and buying a stator form Milwaukee Cycle on ebay. So far I've only put 200 miles on it but all is well currently. There are some stores on ebay that sell new stators with good waranties for much less than OEM so it's worth taking a look at.

I ordered an electromotive stator via a shop and it wasnt perfect. The plug was wrong and they dont supply a new grommet. The instructions says to use the old one, but the old one from Honda is molded onto the wire, I didnt want to hack it off and possible have it leak later or cut/splice the old plug etc. I bought the oem stator and it fit perfectly.

My bike is still out for the cover having a crack in it, I was wondering if anyone knew what the bolt torque for the alternator cover was. Cant find it anywhere in the Haynes book. Thanks.
