954 conversion

Default 954 conversion

:icon_attenti on:today I finally took the 954 engine out of its frame . going to check the valves replace satator cover gasket replace the clutch cover gasket weld the small crack on the side of the case . basicly just get it in good shape for my 29 ! i tried to lift the engine with swing arm and wheel attached . no such luck lol yep its darn heavy and akward.

Yeah my next move is to check the valve ajustment . ! My first time doing shim and bucket style . My first valve ajustment was on my ktm dirt bike I had. Rocker arm and adjusting nut style. And my 86 gsxr 750 too was easey lol

well, it's as easy as it gets so long as you don't have to adjust. if you have to adjust, it's a major PITA (especially compared to the adjusting the nut on the rocker arm style). you need to do all of your measurements before you take the cam off, then you need to accurately measure the shim that comes out of each bucket, and then replace with a shim that makes the right adjustment. there's some formula out there - but i don't remember - nor do i use it. i just know what difference i have to have and add that or subtract with the shim that came out of the bucket. if you know how it mechanically works, it's easy to figure out what to do.

make sure you don't mis-match the buckets - that will throw your final measurement off if you do.

the best way to do it is to get a sheet of paper - and draw 16 circles in the middle of the paper that represent each valve. leave plenty of room to write your measurements down and what not.

Yeah I'm not so good with math . I'll figure it out like I said before these engines don't have NASA stamped on them lol. I'll take the pics demon !! You can up load them ! My avatar pic was really easy. Not !! Lol
