Is 2500 a good deal?

Is 2500 a good deal?
Im looking at a 01 929 with 30k miles. The motor has stripped sparkplugs and it kept shooting the plug out of the head. The guy said that the previous owner had the cam timed for top end. I am not sure that this could be done but the second owner took the head off and did a repair. The bike was originally owned by a 17yearold that downed it and probably rode the bike hard. It is missing the lower fairings and stator cover is leaking. Clean title. Starts and rides good besides a flat rear tire. Would something like this be worth $2500?

That poor F@-+รท Erion edition, it hard to say if its worth 2500.
i sure retapping that plug will cost a few hundred and the replacing the fairings will cost a couple hundred
but if you dont mind taking the time then why not but i paid 2700 for mine with none of those issues so i would offer about 1800 to 2000 just because of the additional time in effort i would have to put into it.

Sounds like the time and money you'll be putting into it would be better spent on a better conditioned, lower miles bike that hasn't been riden as hard. Parts and repairs alone bring you into current fair market range for a better bike...

I can hold my own with a wrench but what you are saying are all valid points and is making me feel better about not buying it. I just didn't want to get the feeling that i passed a good deal up. I hate that. Anyways i did some thinking and figured that it would cost more to bring it to a decent condition than to buy a good solid bike. Also the motor was supposedly opened up by the second owners friend who happened to graduate from MMI. I just cant trust anyone but myself for any motor work or any other mechanical work for that matter.

I have the tool to re tap and sleeve the 929 spark plug holes, I did one of mine a few thousand miles ago. I've got everything and 9 more inserts left. If you want to rent it from me we can work out a deal. I did it by blowing air up the tailpipe with that cylinder's exhaust valves open to get chips out. Let me know what you decide.
