Question Ticking noise and total confusion

Hi people!

I’ve been a happy owner of a -98 CBR900RR. My first bike and first carbed machine ever.

As I’m new to motorcycles, I may be a bit confused. Last week the engine started making a ticking noise. It got a slightly bit louder the longer I rode the bike. Yesterday I took it for a ride and I noticed the noise has gotten a bit louder. I changed the oil to see if I found anything interesting (metal shavings, glitter etc) . What I’ve noticed is that the oil smelled like gasoline. As a newbie I asked uncle Google. After some research I found out that this could be caused by faulty floats, possibly cracked ones.

In the beginning I was planning on doing a valve clearance check (and adjustment if needed). But now I also want to rebuild the carbs. I can’t find any information when searching by the identification number which in my case is {8CAAMFI}.

I was looking for rebuild kits or parts.

Is there any kind soul out there who can help a confused newbie?
