straight pipe
More like they realized that the feds were going to hold back over a million dollars in road money. I don't think the aldermen EVER thought they were wrong!
that's besides the point. i pay taxes to ride on federal roads. and now that a precedent has been set, it's highly unlikely to happen again. someone is always going to have a loud bike. i don't mind the stigma. but, you have convinced me to be a little more conscience about others. thanks for the input! ;p
since i have and have had straight pipes, i know what it's like. if there is a gearhead around, they tend to love it. but mom driving the kids to soccer will hate it... she won't be able to hear her hubby on the phone....
and i know sometimes you feel like being that guy, but with a straight pipe, you can't get away from it. it sucks to have to ride a 3k rpms next to a cop patrolling on your way home from work at night.
another thing, it sounds like you're going faster than you really are.... which is a negative if you ever like to ride faster than the speed limit...
i liked my straight pipes because of how they looked - and sounded when the bike was at idle and lower rpms but at high rpms, like the others said, it's obnoxious.
so i'm going back to an actual muffler. i don't want to be that guy, and i want to ride fast and not be quite as noticeable (sound wise).
now you could buy that straight pipe and rig some packing in there to slightly muffle the sound AND create some back-pressure all while keeping the look. re-pack kits usually only cost around $15. then you'd need to drill the pipe and put a smaller diameter pipe inside to hold the packing. the inner pipe is held on via a screw/bolt
