Default Spools

How hard would it be to add spools to a 97 swingarm. I mean I know you would have to tap and die some holes for them. But how hard would it be? What is the swingarm made out of??? I'm not big on metals so I'm not sure. What kind of bit would you need and stuff?
Thanks, Damon

why not get some flat "spool-less" stands? Handy stands work great for the 900RR

From what I've read the spool less stands have less stability. Which I can see whythe swingarm/bike just kinda sits on the little arms. The spools go in like a slotted area on the stand which adds stability. I was going to purchase a universal spool less stand but if it wouldn't be too bad I was thinking of just adding the spools. Does any one know what kind of drill bit you would need to "penetrate" the swingarm

Personally, I would be more worried about how good of a job I did on tapping (ha!) and securing a thread into the swingarm, than how wobbly the bike may be on regular stands. Spool-less stands will not allow the bike to fall--I've changed out my entire front end (forks, triples, everything) without so much as a hiccup from the rear stand. I'll bet the actual difference in 'wobbliness' measures in single percentage points, if that. The real reason is...spool stands look racier.

'wobbiness' would be in teh quality of the stand itself. Not if it was spool or non-spool.

Well if there is not much difference then I won't waste my time with it. Its just I had read that spools were supposed to be a lot more stable. But if there not thenit saves me some time and trouble. Thanks guys.

The handy stands with the flat pad are the best I've seen for that and very economical. My Vortex stand in "spool less" mode sucks as it's round and the F4i I was working on kept sliding off. My 900RR with the handy stands worked great.
