Default Rebuild time

Time to do a rebuild of my 94 CBR 900RR. Let my cousin borrow it, now its time to rebuild.

The bike went down at low speed, but went down badly. The left peg dug in and was bent back to the point that it put a hole in the swing arm. Dented the tank, ripped off the end of the left clipon, thrashed the upper and rear fairings, ripped the passenger seat. I was not there, but he was following my step father and lost control of it starting from a stand still. He lives and rides in Germany, but does not have a sport bike. He has been on this bike before (5 years ago on his last visit). He ended up with a bruised shoulder (was wearing proper gear), and was able to pickup the bike and push it back to the house on his own (300 yards).

I am so glad there is EBAY. Starting to pick up the parts. My question is in regards to replacing the fairings. I have looked at a few source (Airtech and Cheetah) and was wondering if anyone has any opinions on them.

I was looking at the Cheetah rear fairing because they are the only one's I have found so far with the conventional rear that keeps the trunk (I like having some storage). I cant tell if I still need the plastic that goes around the brake light (mine's broken), so if anyone knows, please tell.

Airtech appears to be cheaper, but I dont know about the quality. Airtech also appears to not have a conventional rear fairing.

If anyone knows of a decent rear fairing that has the trunk and integrated fender eliminator, I would be interested. I saw one on ebay, but it was a little chewed up and did not mention the original manufacturer.

This will be a winter project (maybe into the spring, I have 2 other bikes so wont be without), and am lucky enough to have access to some decent painters.

I have had this bike 9 years now and have always loved it, time to spend some money and effort to get it back in shape.

Hey black, what color is it? Try these for a start if you want to save some money and time.

Black, violet, yellow

White, black, red

Any swingarm from 93 to 97 will fit your 94, just get the corresponding axle and spacers to go with it (i.e. 97 swingarm with 97 axle and spacers).

Lets just say that your picture is killing me....
edited: Different monitor, fully awake, no alcohol, never mind, thought yours was white-black-red. I can see better now.

White, black, and red.

Very nice hit on ebay, been looking for about 2 weeks now, that was the first complete tail section I have seen.

2 am right now. When I have a little more sense in me (morning), will probably bid on this item (if not buy it now, seems like a good price).

Do you know this person by chance?

Already purchased the swing arm and back seat ($50 and $10). Thanks for the details though.

That's the ONLY complete tail section I've ever seen. Usually they come in pieces and almost never with the center lock piece. No, I don't know the guy, but I feel sort of comfortable buying from mid-99% feedbacks. $200 is a decent price, but since no one has even bid, start low and get up to the reserve. The plastic does look amazingly clean for 14 MODEL YEARS OLD!

Received an email response from him. He will also be selling the upper and its supposed to be in good shape. This has caused me to change plans. I originally thought there was going to be no way that I would be able to get all of the pieces in original colors (at a decent price) so was going to go after market and custom paint.

My only concern now is the left side (which is scraped on mine, not cracked/ripped), and the tank. Neither of which he is selling.

I was looking closer at the tank, and it may be repairable. The dent at first looked very bad, but it appears that it is the underlying sticker that is bubbled and popped up giving the dent its odd shape.. I will have to see if I can get this thing popped out without drilling. It will still require custom paint and the stickers.

My only remaining concern is how close all these things will match (slightly different shades of white). It would be a shame to have to get all of these parts, then still do a repaint to get them to match again.

Painting isn't so bad. Check this out for OEM colors in spray cans. All the red on your bike is just decals, the black and white are painted on. THERE ARE NEVER, I REPEAT, NEVER UPPER COWLS FOR SALE. BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe it's way cheaper to nab the occasional OEM used plastic than buy aftermarket and try to match paint and graphics. It just takes more patience than money with ebay sometimes. And now that you have all winter...

I have the advantage of hanging out with the street rod crowd. I have access to some top quailty painters with their own booths/gear. So painting was never going to be an issue for me (trade of services). I just thought there was no way that I would ever find the fairings for my bike (in my colors) on ebay in a good enough condition, and just assumed that I would be buying a nearly complete set of aftermarket and having them all painted/stickered.

When all is said and done, I would like to get the bike back to the point that you cant tell its ever been down.

I may have to go back and look for parts for my ZX-6. It's my first bike and I use it now to teach friends how to ride (been down on both sides, but still a good looking bike at 10 yards). If I can find a new upper for it dirt cheap, may pick that up also.

Left and right tails only

The listing says they're parting out the bike, but it could be old news, check it. Decent feedbacks but I hate when people charge outrageous shipping just so they can lower the item price. Kinda lame, but the pieces look clean.

I won the complete rear end from the earlier post. I had needed all 4 pieces (sides, top, back), so I am happy with that. As a bonus, the guy threw in the seats. This may turn out to be a useful bonus. I had purchased another back seat (EBAY). It just arrived. There are two bolts on the seat that you attach the bracket to. One of them appears to be snapped (one is half the length of the other). When I get home and compare it to my original, I will know for certain.
