Default Overheating Trouble

The bike is a 1998 CBR 900RR. I have had it for 6 months now. I bought it mint for 1800(deal of a life time), only problem at the time war the rectifier. Anyways, I have put about 3000 miles on it without any problems, until Saturday. I went to the beach and on the way home the chain broke. I was cruising along at about 130-140 mph for about 20-30 minutes, I know I shouldn't of been going so fast, before it broke. I replaced the chain the next day and went for a ride. I noticed after about 15 minutes of riding it that it was running a little hot.

I went threw and checked what i could. The engine does run noticeably hotter then what it did, before the chain broke.

Things that will help you give me ideas of what it could be.

Mainly that the engine says 893 cc on the side of it(found this out tonight), witch means its out of a 93-95 in a 98 frame .

The left side of the radiator does not get anywhere near as hot as the right side.
I hooked a hose up to the radiator, disconnected the lower hose and the water came out as fast as it went in
The fan is running fine pulling air threw, as it should.
The fluid was 100% anti-freeze, i replaced it with pure water for now.

I'm thinking water pump, but at the price of $170 I'm gonna check everything else first.

Thanks for any and all advise that you can give.

Hi There GUnot

If there arnt any leakages in the water system then it will probably be your water pump. As another test, pull your spark plugs and check what they look like. They must be a light brown colour, if they are white'ish then your air/fuel mixture is set to lean on your carbs and that will make your bike run too hot as well. I realize that this only happened after the chain broke but it could be something as small as that. Plus check the fins of your radiator, maybe you could have ridden into something small enough to not notice but big enough to bend your fins on the radiator to restrict airflow through the radiator.

If all else fails, then your water pump is most likely the problem.

I figured out what it was. I believe it was a clogged hose or radiator. I did the 50-50 white vinegar and distilled water to the cooling system and charged the battery. Now it runs fine.

Could it of been overheating because the battery wasn't charged fully? The only thing i can see the battery would do is not allow the fan to spin as fast as it needed to.

Hi Gunot

Dont think the battery could have anything to do with it. Check the connection points of the fan, maybe a crappy connection might be causing it to not get all of the power it needs.
