need some advice on a 96 900rr
just picked up a 96 900rr. im stoked to get it on the road. however aside from the minor cosmetic fixes it does need to be tuned. the guy said it ran fine before he stored it. hasnt had a tune since winter. i live in michigan. he out a d and d exhaust on it and put new jets and needles on it. it hasnt been tuned since the new jets and needles and runs a little rough. runs good but at idle and the first probably 3k rpms its sluggish. up in the higher rpms it runs good. seems to be running a little rich. my question is, it seems to just need a tune, is it difficult if i do it myself? i would say im mechanically inclined but im fairly new to bikes and this is my first honda. how much should i expect to pay to have it done at the local honda shop to have it done? if i do it myself how much work am i looking at and what special carb tool do i need? is it simply just adjusting a **** on each carb or what? thanks for the help guys. links to the tool i need or a summed up step by step would be much appreciated
From what I have seen in my area, to have carbs cleaned and tuned they charge 40-60 dollars PER CARB. I've done it before myself on single cylinder dirt bikes and it isn't that hard. With that being said I think it gets a whole lot trickier when you are trying to set up all 4 in an identical manner. Also, I've been told that syncing them can be a real pain. It is not as simple as adjusting a ****. You have to get in and either replace or clean small internal parts.
If its been sitting a while the carbs r gonna need good douchin! Jets, emulsion tubes, chk floats everything... And sync them,Get manual, then spend a lil $ n get them dynoed.. 2 c where ur at!
ya im taking it in later today. it also doesnt hold a charge. battery is new all the connections are good. so im guessing its the stator. which is right behind the cover on the left side of the bike if you are sitting on it correct? doesnt loook to hard to replace so i might do it myself unless someone chims in and says that it is difficult to replace. doesnt look to be so from the diagrams i looked at
Yes correct spot, very simple 2 replace... But i take it u did not chk it yet as it might b ur rectifier, ive gone through way more rec's then stators until i did my current setup! Get manuel, grab ur multimeter and start testing u'll kno for sure then!!
