I used synthetic and semi and regular oil and never really noticed any difference. I usually put in an oil additive like duralube too...but never more than 6 ounces...any more than that the clutch will slip...that stuff is pretty bad *** tho cause if you idle the bike and add it at the same time I swear the RPMs will go up a few and the enginge will sound smoother. also I think on the 900s oil wasn't as crucial as bikes nowadays...with all the friction reducing components that the new bikes use
