Hey everybody, I just joined this forum today to get a couple answers about my bikes' brakes. No one on the other forums i'm a member of have given me a good enough answer.

So today I got my late birthday present: my new brake pads. I got the front changed in about 15 minutes flat. Those are no problem.

However, when I came to the back I ran into an issue. I took one of the bolts out that hold that bracket onto the caliper so I could pivot that up and get to my pads, and then I took out the pin holding the pads in.

As soon as I did that, a little clip/spring thingy flew out. I didn't notice it before I took the pads off so I didn't pay attention to how it was on there.

I narrowed it down to two possibilities as to how it goes back.

I'm just not a hundred percent sure which one it is.

So my question is how does that thing go back on the caliper? If any of you could explain how to put it back on or possibly have pictures for some reason that would be great.

The Service Manual doesn't have a picture, and it's hard to explain...the "spine" part that looks like a cross goes up into the caliper, the legs push on the pads. Like a spider walking. If that isn't confusing enough, go to somewhere like www.ronayers.com and look up the parts fische for the rear brake. It will have a drawing.

 

Oh darn. I think i'm even more confused now. There was also this thing in there.

 

Well, that one doesn't look like the ones I've seen on 900 series (I've seen differences in small pieces like that over different year models), but it looks like it should go straight up. The ends of the pads hook in on one end, and pin in on the other end; the spring just pushes the pads down. You can really only get it to all go together and push one way.
