Default Ok i am a in search for answers

i am 18 and new to riding and ive always adored the cbr 900rr and i got the chance to get one and so i did for 300 it was a parts bike. these are the problems:engine blown no vin numbers(so no title) missing all fairings except tail and front wheel, lowering trangles(only came with one) so ive never even riddin a bike before but i know all about them when to shift and how to,clutch control and all. so if my fellow 900 owners can help a brotha out i would love it and no im wont get a smaller bike.

The 900 really isn't a starter bike and is a really poor choice for a beginning rider, but even if you are unwilling to start out on a smaller bike it sounds like it would cost more to get the one you bought rolling then it would cost to buy one in good shape and running. I bought one a few months ago that is kind of rough for $2,000, but it is complete, the miles are not too high, and it runs strong. Somebody else on here recently bought one without fairings but otherwise complete and with less miles for $900. The big hurdles for you are the blown engine (think it would realistically cost at least $1000 to find another motor) and the lack of vins, because no matter how much work you put in you wont be able to get it street legal. Probably cannot even get a salvage title for it because there is no way for them to verify that it is not stolen. Also, wrenching on bikes is a little higher stakes than on cars, and whether or not you have the mechanical ability to get it together correctly so that it is a safe bike is a whole 'nother issue. If I were you, I would try to resell it as a parts bike before you put in too much time and money and save up for one that is in better shape and you can title and register and ride legally because sport bikes are cop magnets, I can pretty much guarantee that if you got it running you would have some police contact.

Alright, well first off forget about this bike. That will simplify your life and probably save it. You need to sell the bike and start out on something half way realistic. The 900 is not a beginners bike, especially if you have never ridden another two wheeled device in your life (bicycles don't count.) Matbia makes an excellent point when he says the stakes are high doing your own repairs. And from what it sounds like you've got a complete wreck on your hands and it just isn't worth the trouble. You will never get that thring through the registration process and atotal bike restoration even with VINs is very challenging and requires years of mecahinical knowledge. You should save up some money and look into something no bigger then 600cc. You can find thoudands of these on Ebay or in local classifieds and they will allow you to gain some skill and cempetance before jumping on a bike that does 0-60 in less than 3 seconds. Also, if you get a bike in better shape you will actually see how things are supposed to work, as apposed to starting from dead zero with a bike that has obviously been heavily abused. It's great that your a CBR fan but you've chosen the wrong model and a project that is over your head. I am not trying to belittle you or make you look foolish but you need to hear it straight. Get a 600 and in 2 or 3 years you will be ready for a 9. You will also have the mechanical apptitude to work on your bike by then. Good luck and really listen to what we are telling you.

And so you know, if part that thing out on Ebay you'll easily double the 300$ you paid.

OK my 1st bike is my 1993 900RR so yes its fine to have that as a 1st bike you just need to not try and go 175mph as soon as you jump on the thing u know, i now know my bike like i know my mom lol but ya just be safe on it and take it slow if that is going to be your 1st bike that's what i did and i am glad i did the power in the bike is no joke man. but you should pat it out and get a bike that will pass smog and make it to the DMV. they r a big ****ing pain in the *** about having all the papers on **** like this and with no VIN your ****ed so ya just make sum $$ off the bike and save up for 1 that runs you will save like 2500 that way cuz at the end of the day all the $ you will dump into getting that bike running and DMV right will cost you like $5500 that's just my guess and as soon as you put more than $400 into it you will never turn back and thin you r in the (-) and that's all bad!! thin you will just be dinging into a hole that will never stop and at the end of it all you might have a 900RR that runs but you could have got 2 900RR with all the $ that you will drop into it so ya let it go and save up for 1 that runs

definetly listen to them- get rid of that bike for one- and going to something smaller would be a better idea- cuz i guarantee ur going to crash- im 19- so i have know how it goes- we re young and dumb- pretty girl drives by- we show off- we crash!
the 900 is waaaaay too much bike for a first time rider- i learned that the hard way!
go pick up a cbr600 or something- and when u crash u wont feel as bad either

hey bro , all the advise given tus far is dead-on, i bought a fixer in way better shape and you must know that the bike is down all the time . the worst part is a bike or anything for that matter with bad vin#'swill be the biggest pain in the ***. rule of thumbnever buy anything without a kleen matching vin #'s no matter how good it looks! you should consider an f2 or an f3 as ive seen them for under $2000 and in great shape. i loved my f2 and bike has great manners and always fed my adrenalin habbit. the 900 gives very little mercy to the in'experienced rider ,but if you refuse to listen to said advice, then i say good luck to you and wear all the gear.

MY 900rr is my first bike too! and when i got it i didn't expect to live too long afterwords, but i just took it very very easy. Before my 900 i had never driven any motorized 2 wheeled vehicle , let me tell you i rode scared for the first 2 months and had some close calls but never dumped it . I now some guys sell frames with titles maybe you could find one and if you put your bike together don't cut corners , if something is questionable replace it! you don't want to leave your impression on the asphalt if you know what i mean, wear your helmet! start by driving intown and get a feel for the clutch and handling of the bike . when you feel ready go on a straight hwy and cruise the speed limit , then find yourself a twisty road that you know and hit the turns at a slower speed . GOOD LUCK!!

My first bike was a '74 cb550. All of 50hp at best. I wrecked on that thing no less than 3 times, and one of them was serious. All of them directly attributed to my being a newb. I truly believe if I had started out with my 900 I would be dead. Remember this truism of motorcycling- "There are two kinds of riders, those that have been down and those that will."
