How can I make it faster?

How can I make it faster?
I bought a 98' 900RR a while back and have been riding it for a while now. It runs good, but it's slow. I can get it to pull up in first gear and that's it. It pulls hard and still hauls ***, but I bought the bike because I have always heard they are wheelie machines and it will barely pull a wheelie. I bought the bike as a theft recovery so I am sure it has been riden hard.
So my question is.... What can I do to make it faster? It has a slip on pipe and that's it.

Wheelie problems are generally due to the rider quitting early. I've seen many people that try to pull a wheelie start shifting their weight forward as soon as the nose starts to lift. Some get spooked by the nose coming up and don't give it enough gas. Unless there is something seriously wrong with your bike you should be able to walk that thang.
I've read articles that favor clutch or power or combo of both. One article was like 5 pages long. If you wanna do wheelies you just need to do a couple things right.
1) Plant yourself on the seat and don't move forward when it starts to come up
2) Run it to 30mph in 1st and then open it up. Not slowly either -- open that bad boy up.
3) Cover the rear brake in case you start to go over. ****caution : this will cause you to land HARD but is better than flipping**** it's better to ease off the throttle.
4) A lot of people prefer bouncing it up in 2nd because you can control the throttle better -- only thing is you're doing 50-60mph as it's coming up. Kinda fast to be learning.
So find an empty parking lot and practice, practice, practice. Remember though ... eventually you will crash doing any kind of stunt. Even the pros do. So be careful and wear the gear.

Yeah..... I can get it up in first and I'm fairly comfortable standing it up in first now....
But shouldn't it stand up in second?
I have it revd hard and give it all she has and it gets moving don't get me wrong. But it won't stand up. Other bikes I see just punch it and they're bike pulls up. I want mine to.

Are you chopping the throttle (compressing the front) before you hit it in 2nd? Run it up to 60-70 mph and completely let off throttle -- front end will dive -- as it hits bottom go wide open throttle. If that won't bring it up then I'd suggest dropping a tooth up front.

RE: How can I make it faster?
I didnt have a problem wheelieing my 900 in 2nd with a chop of the throttle or the clutch or a slight bounce. If you are expecting it to climb up all on it's own in 2nd you're dreaming. I have yet to ride a liter bike that would do it. A first gen ZX-10R is close, but even it wouldnt do it unless standing it up exiting a corner hard on the gas..........You can't throw enough power at the 900RR to get it to do it if unless it's huffing laughing gas or being force fed some air.

I am a beginner at wheelies but I can get it up in 2nd on my 900. Run it about 50-60mph, let off the gas, then clutch it, full throttle and let off the clutch. she picks up for me. I don't ride it out though. I just bring it back down cause i'm chicken. works for me. My buddy does it on his 600 gsxr. Try it and lemme know.

RE: How can I make it faster?
I think what he means is that he got the bike and thought if he just shifted to redline in every gear, without all that fancy throttling up/clutch in,etc....that the front wheel would automatically lift at redline.
That's what I thought too. I was trying to do that with my VFR 750
