Default Doesn't ignite nor respond

Hi,

Mine is 1997 cbr900rr.

After I run my cbr in normal condition a week ago, I tried to start it today and found the battery fully discharged.
So I replaced it with new battery and tried to start it again but it doesn't respond at all after the starter switch is applied.

I checked as follows:
1. Other electricals like horn, lights, instrument etc were normal.
2. Terminals on starter motor were normal.
3. Terminals on neutral switch were normal.
4. Volt guage read 13.2v on battery terminal at key-on.
5. Volt guage read 10.2v when I pushed the starter switch.

I will really appreciate if you advise what I have to check and correct.

Regards,
Jean

Did you fully charge new battery before installing and using it?

Appears you may have parasitic drain that's sucking out battery power when bike is off. You have any accessories like fog-lights, heated-gloves, USB-charger for phone/GPS?

Do this test and see what drain is when bike's off. For different model, but same procedure.

Hi Dan,

Thank you very much.

Sure I've fully charged the new battery and my cbr is all original without any after-market accessories, even the paint is original.
One thing I replaced with an electrical part was just the neutral switch last year and so today I replaced it again with a new neutral switch, but still remain same with no response at all.

As instructed with your manual, I did the current leakage test and my ammeter read 0.7 mA which is 7 times larger than the 0.1 mA.

Alright, let's understand my cbr have a parasitic drain from somewhere in the electrical systems that I shall catch up and fix as soon.

What I have to do right now is to find a reason why the starter switch doesn't respond at all despite every electrical thing like terminals/instruments shows normal?

Have you ever experienced any similar symptoms to this or could give any probable idea with your experiences?

Will appreciate further.

Jean
