Probably a good investment if you plan on keeping your carby bikes.
You need to remove all non metallic parts prior to cleaning them.

They are safe for all carb components, but you do need to fully disassemble each carb. There's no need to have the rubber bits in there. Also if you don't completely break them down, you can't guarantee they will be full cleaned.
Ultrasonic cleaners are very friendly on the items being cleaned. Jewelers use them to clean rings, necklaces and such. A person just has to be mindful of the cleaning agent you pour into the tank. That's where the real concern is.

 

Thanks both for the info! Looks like I’ll be taking the carbs back off the bike for a proper clean. I’m waiting on a new fuel pump to arrive to see if the bike runs properly, but suspect a proper carb clean with the ultrasonic cleaner is the way to go!

 

As if by magic, new fuel pump installed and I have a happy running bike! A little rich with 2.5 turns out, so I’ll tweak that later, but running smooth, picks up fast (I lubed both throttle and choke cables while I had the carbs off) no juddering anymore! Maybe I miraculously managed to get the carbs clean enough after all!

can’t wait to get her up to temp now and go for a proper blast out at the weekend hopefully!

thanks! Got it running fine in the end - it was the fuel pump. Gravity fed doesn’t work on my bike for some reason, float bowls don’t fill up quick enough so it starves.

it’s running pretty rich, but I can live with poor fuel consumption for the moment!
