Default clutch lever in Vs. out

94 CBF 900RR

Recently had the oil changed to synthetic and my mechanic told me that it was a quart low. The oil should be checked with the last thread on the brim of the oil fill and not twisted all the way in and then pulled out. Correct?

Dont know if I am crazy or not but it seems as though when i start the bike it idles with a slight knock but when i pull the clutch lever in it runs smooth as new. Is this right or do i have a problem?!?!?

Also dont know if the battery has anything to do with this, was suppoesed to be a new one but had to charge it again to get the bike started

I really didnt understand the first one.

You are m o s t probably having clutch cover issue.

Either the bike had been stalled for a very long time or your rectifier is out of order.

right on the nail, rectifier and stator needed replaced. now the issue with the thumping, clutch pulled in it stops. one person tells me that its some important engine part and get your kicks out of the bike and let it go. i hear this when the clutch is not pulled in. random thump/knocks.

thats a very good question.i know the noise,i have a 96 cbr 900rr and it does the same thing.when you start it you here it and if you pull in the clutch lever it stops.but mine goes away after it warms up.so either its normal or we both have the same problem.if i find out i will let you know.

Mine does the same thing. Although mine is more on the lines of a slight rattle and not a thump. It probably has something to do with lack of tension on the clutch when the tranny is in neutral. When in gear and when the clutch is pulled in, tension is on the clutch and everything is tight....at least that is what I always thought.

All wet clutches growl when you let off the clutch in neutral. It's just the plates rubbing a bit as things tighten. If you are hearing a thump then that may require attention. Possibly a deformed steel or clutch basket bolt not tight enough.

im sorry, more of a rattle than a thump. does this need attention or is this ok to put on the back burner?

Sounds normal to me. Chainstretcher gave a good explanation of how clutches make noise. I would put it on the back burner.
