Default Clunky Gearbox???

My 1993 Blade has a very notchy box from neutral into first and then first into second. After these gears all is smooth as a babies bum. Is this something to worry about? It makes a sickening cruch when i knock it into first so much i cringe when i hear it, but then i have just come from riding a Suzuki SV650 which was very smooth!
Also the headlamps are ****!!! Can i uprate the bulbs and will it do anygood?...........Cheers guys!

I believe all bikes will have thecluncky sound when you upshift to first from neutral. I will have the sound occasionally. Not sure about other bikes but personally from my experience kawa bikes produce a lot of this sound even with thier new bikes. Maybe Spirit can give you a more technical details on this.

Technically I'm not sure whether it can be done or not but I had changed my head light to a higher capacity and changed the fuse as well. So far (almost a year) no problem.

No, no worries mate. Welcome to Honda gearboxes, where first gear always feels like you're stepping on yer mum's false teeth! Chonk!

Regular oil changes with quality oil will reduce the clunk factor somewhat, but it won't be long before you're used to it and--dare I say it--prefer the feel.

Your beams should not be **** unless someone stabbed a pair of cheapos in there. Maybe check your fairing stay and headlight mounts for fastness in case it's causing the light to miss the road. I'm about to try a pair of 'xenon' lamps, but we'll see how that pans out. I'm kind of excited, but those are famous last words...

I will somehow try to upshift to 1st gear 'smoothly' but fvuk.... the chonk will still pop up sometimes...
I had noticed the chonk more prominent during the bike is cold; once she is really hot there is no problem.

Good luck with your xenon spirit... let us know if you blow up some wires after that.

I have been told the 92/93 blades had a weaker gearbox. I have noticed it is fine in3rd onwards. But when i wind it up and change form 1st to 2nd it clonks hard!! Also neutral to 1st!......just doesnt sound good thats all!

I have a 97 and it made alot of noise from neutral to 1st then from 1st to 2nd soooooo i put a FACTORY PRO SHIFT KIT AND DETENT now still clunks just not as much. unless your going to get the trannieeee undercut so the gears mesh better your allways going to hear that noise.

I have a 98 and the gearbox is also noisy.. probably doesnt help that I have a bent shift fork.. As for the headlight issue.. I put a high beam h.i.d out of a cadillac escalade.. its a lil pricy, and time consuming, but it is WELL worth it!
