I followed the steps here, was able to remove the shift forks out the bottom of the engine...

I don't know much about transmissions, might want to check with someone who really knows transmissions why it's hard to get into 3rd. I'm interested to see what you find regarding the noise, as my 919 is rattling also. I posted a video there, does yours sound like that at all?

Another thought would be pre ignition, I turned my pilot screws down to 2 turns out (should be 3 turns out on the RRV), clatter, clatter, clatter every time I accelerated, turned back out to 3, nice and quiet 🙂

Have you replaced the actual cam chain tensioner, or the tensioner lifter assembly?

Part #4 is the cam chain tensioner, part #5 is the tensioner lifter assembly. Part #6 is cam chain guide b, and part #7 is cam chain guide a. If the actual cam chain tensioner is bad, installing what is incorrectly referred to as a "manual cam chain tensioner" (lifter assembly) won't fix the problem, but will stress/stretch the chain as you crank it down to try and quiet the noise. Check the cam chain guides also.
