Default Bike suddenly died on the freeway

I was cruising on the freeway and all of sudden the engine died so I started getting over to get to the shoulder of the freeway while at the same time trying to drop the bike into gear and jump start it with no success. I pushed it off the freeway and then stated checking all the fuses and connections everything was good. The only that that would work was the lights and everytime i would hit the started switch the head lights would cut out until I released it nothing else to starter relay kicking it or anything of the sort.

I had a friend bring a truck and loaded it up and took it home and left it in the truck overnight. When I unloaded it in the morning and rolled it into the garage I turned on the ignition and hit the starter switch and it started right up.

Question I have is if anyone might know what happened and what to check so that I doesn't happen to me again while I'm on the freeway.

First i would check your battery connections. they might have come loose and then got enough contact to start the bike back up at a later time.

Dunno the 900rr but something similar happens on mine (haven't lost power yet). I have a short in the connector at the master fuse. When it decides to act up, I get the exact same symptoms trying to start her.

Usually a jiggle will get her going.

Also check your regulator/rectifier connection underneath your seat. I have seen where the regulator was putting out too much voltage and actually heated up the wires enough to melt the plastic connector. The wires then touched and shorted. It also happened on the interstate and just died.

Plus one on checking the regulator/rectifier and the wires that connect by the battery (under the seat).

Maybe also get a voltmeter and see (with the engine running) if your stator is overcharging your battery.

Mine did that and fried my wires.
