Default battery

hi guys had a problem last week with bike cbr900rrv model 1997. the problem was battery was completly flat wouldnt start. took battery out and took to my nearest battery shop to get it tested and was told bad cell in it. so i bought brand new battery sealed type and fitted she fired straight up. but i do notice on tick over with lights on and i give it a rev there is a slight dim of the lights . i would of thought the lights would go brighter when reved yes?. as i say its only a slight dim and i have been useing the bike this last few days with the lights on and new battery still ok. is this normal for the blades or might there be a problem.

Your saying when the revs go up the lights dim?

That would be a problem. You need to put a volt meter on the battery and see exactly what the voltage is doing.

Sounds like the R/R is going bad. Could explain the bad cell in the battery, if its over charging the battery. Apparently a relatively common failure.

Good news its easy to replace and readily availble. if you like on the mod forum, there was a thread there on how to wire an 'upgrades' R/R instead of the stock honda unit.

Default battery

thanks for your reply i will order a r/r for my blade tomorrow but i dont think the bad cell in battery had any thing to do with the rr overcharging as when the volt meter was put on battery and engine reved the volts didnt go up but went the other way and dropped but then again iam no expert.

Default rr

found new rectifier from china on ebay delivered at £16 or should i go for a better one?. the way i think is i dont know for sure it is my rectifier so if i buy this cheap one and it works then i could look for a better rr but if it dont then all i have lost is £16.

The way I understand it, the honda R/R is a fairly high rate of failure item (according to accounts around the web) so I would buy the best quality unit I could since its likely to fail at some point regardless.

Default new rectifier fitted now

hi again well i fitted my new rectifier and nothing has changed. when started up from fresh eg over night lights all brighten up way they should do but after about 10 minutes lights dull slightly when reved. saying this the new battery that has been fitted now for about 2 weeks is still holding a charge as i put the multimeter on battery this morning without turning on the ignition and it was reading 13.9 volts strange. can i ask how many earthing points are there on the blade so i can check them and clean. i found the earthing point from battery to engine and this checks out fine.
