I had mine together long enough to ride and check the gears and clutch, seems second gear is about gone, pops out after 5000 rpm. I have pulled the motor and everything back off for now and getting the motor redone. rebuild no. 2 lmao. $550 for basic rebuild without parts, not sure what it will run me in the end.

decided to open up the 97 motor and see how bad it was to replace the clutch and gears myself. I need to get a manual before i go to far, but here is some pics of the current teardown and you can see the gears are rounded on the first and last gear, not sure if those are second and sixth I think?

The rims are gonna get powder coated, with new front tire, i'll finish the back one off a bit more lol. Gonna see about redoing the forks myself, and replace all hoses, etc while its apart. I don't know why but the last guy took off the swing arm chain cover, so now i have to remove the swing arm to put one of those on, which I haven't found a cheap used one, so i guess im ordering new. The sub frame has a split one of the supports need to get it welded for now. Soon as the motor is ready the rest will be too.

I have tore into both motors yesterday, the 97 gears are bad and the shifter/ forks, so i decided to tear open the 99 motor and it stunk bad, smelled burnt up, lots of crap in the oil pan, checked all the rods and no. #2 cylinder is shot, but the trans gears and all still look great. Looks like the 99 motor became the donor motor.

Default tranny

I am not for sure if that will work. I could be wrong but isn't the 97 a 899cc and the 99 is a 919cc(that's what I have). I believe the tranny's are 2 different tranny's. I found a 97 and was told that it wouldn't work for mine. something about it not fitting correctly. that is one thing that I would check. I have to tear mine down when I get home, can't accelerate through 2nd. good luck and congrats on the bike.
