Default 95 900rr- 2nd gear problems

So i get a bike, beautiful condition from a friend. Runs great for about a month....then my second gear starts dropping out and then it starts just slipping if you give it any throttle. Ask my friend about it and he says it never did that before. After riding it now for about another month, i basically have no 2nd Gear. If you give it any throttle you can just hear the chain spining. Every other gear works fine. So basically i need a new transmission, however i'm having the hardest time finding a used one... Where is a good place to find one? And i hear it is a major major pain to even replace the trans, but its gonna cost about 1200 toget it done... I'm willing to do the work and attempt it, but i just want to find a used one that i know is going to be reliable and not have the same problem. Does anyone know what years will work with my 95?

I believe that 93-95 were the same. Other than that i'm not sure. You can find them online but they are new and pretty pricey. They are racing transmissions and they will not break again. I will find you the link and repost.

It's going to be hard to find a used transmission that's any good. You probably only need to replace 2-3 gears and the shift forks, so you really don't need to buy a whole transmission. Just tear it down and determine what parts you need then order them. I just did mine and replaced every gear that showed ANY wear at all on the teeth or the dogs plus the shift forks. I think I replaced 4 gears total, could've been 5.... My parts bill was under $400.

I recommend having the transmission undercut, it's worth the money. I had mine done when mybike only had 3000 miles. Now i can shift withoutcluthing if i like, and not damage it andmost racer have this done right out of the box. Undercutting is the way to go!![8D]
