'93 900RR Engine Upgrade?
I have a 93 900 RR with 50,000 miles. Over the last couple months i have noticed a dramatic lack of power. Then today as i was pulling out of the driveway the motor started nocking like crazy...... It sounds like a bad rod nock i comes and goes with throttle. So.... I am looking at replacing the motor because i love the bike.
I am looking at a couple options. I am going to price out a full rebuild kit.
I have a friend that works in a Motorcycle graveyard.... he doesnt have any old double r motors but he has lots of new stuff. 1000RR and 929's seem to be readily available cheep. I have not had luck finding anyone that has done a modern engine transplant. Im sure i can get a complete motor/harness/gauge cluster.... etc.
Or i can get on ebay and buy a low mileage motor for around a grand that i can just bolt in and keep riding.
Anyone with any advice would be appreciated. Is it worth going thru the headache to put a newer style motor in. More power would be appreciated but not needed. has anyone done it???
Any rough numbers on parts for a rebuild? I can do the work myself and i have a good machine shop in town that i work with.... But its a PITA.

Im in the process of dropping a 919 out of a 98 into my 93, I got one with 20k on ebay for roughly 1000$ with shipping. It bolts right in with no modifications but I have run into a few problems. Cooling lines are different, you have to extend the oil pressure sensor wire, its shifting backwards (no idea how that's possible) and its not reving past 6k probably unrelated though.
googled why its reversed shifting and apparently that's moto gp style, who knew. I dont like it but I might just have to get used to it.
