Default 900rr cam chain tensioner

I think that I have the cam chain tensioner noise on my 900. Is it worth buying the ape manual tensioner or just stick with the factory? Is the noise hurting anything? I've seen a post on cbr world that you can fix the noise with no parts, is that true? I'm an automotive tech and the noise I have sounds like an exhaust leak from underneath the tank or front of engine area. I only hear it on accelertation. Is this the cam chain tensioner? I've checked exhaust manifold bolts and all seem tight, no noise at idle, only on accel.

Also, change of subject; I'm selling my 600f3 and was wondering if you can change your user name on here?

I just replaced my factory with an APE, 57 dollar fix and you don't have to worry about the OEM one failing

i have the same issue, only on acceleration. i was told it was either the CCT, valves needing shimmed, or exhaust leak. I need to get to the bottom of it, let me know if you find out what yours was.

just did mine. quited it right the hell up lol. if you have a ratchet, 1-2 extensions and a socket (either 7mm or 8mm) then you can be done in about 25 minutes. dont even have to take the fairings off. i just undid the first couple of of bolts on the side and pushed them out the way. good luck.

ps
oh yeah and you need a wrench to tighten the tensioner on the piece itself. just snug it tight by hand and then 1 maybe 1.5 turns with wrench then lock it down.
