Turns Over Wont Start
Engine turns but will not start. Will give history then questions. Bike was running fine but would never hold a charge. While connecting charger to battery I discovered the three yellow wires that are in the large rubber connector had burn completely a loose. I was inspecting the charging system trying to get a hold of my charging issue and found corrosion at each of these connectors. After further inspection I discovered that the wires were burnt all the way thru on the male side of the connectors. Giving the look as it was connected. Cut, cleaned and repaired each of the three yellow wires. Traced the wires down to the stator and cut into the outer wire sleeve to examine the condition of the wire itself. It doesn’t have a color that I’m comfortable with. A dull green as if corrosion had set in. Question 1: Is this a sign that my stator should be replaced all together? At the other end of the wire assembly toward the rectifier side, I unplugged the rectifier for inspection. The white three pronged connector shows signs of burning on one of the three blades. The connector itself is still intact. The burning that took place didn’t melt the plastic housing to the metal blades but did leave one of the blades really dark. It gets power, jus looks bad. Question 2: Could this be a factor in the bike not starting and if so any recommendations? Last but not least the Rectifier itself. I’ve checked all around locally for this infamous imrie 690 ignition test set that’s mentioned in the manual but when I make my phone call to purchase one the dealers are just as lost and some have never hear of it. Can the Rectifier be tested? Does it play a role in starting my bike with a fully charged battery?
I had the same issue with my 93 RR. i did not like the way things looked on my stator harness, and my reg was the original with no cooling finns, my bike would not run so after some good advise from members here, i checked simple continuity on the stator and found issue. I replaced my stator and rectifier with NEW components. fresh charge on my yuasa and top off with repisol oil and it ran great. The new rect. from HONDA has a large heat sink on top of it, a way better design. my stator was missing some of the epoxy that surrounds it , and the wires looked like ***. it was recommended to me to replace both of these components at the same time. I buy my parts at Beaverdam honda and have found them to be pretty resonable pricewise, and their web parts fish is the bomb. sounds to me like you have the same issue a lot of older CBR's have, I know that i bought my way out of the problem, but peace of mind was worth it. Also just a thought , did you make sure that the bike is getting fuel? a bad little fuel pump will keep it from starting. if your turning the engine over and the bike not starting, raw fuel will be very evident by smell, if you smell no fuel check out your fuel system.Hope this helps bro
My 93 900rr gave me a lot of headaches with the charging system.
Finally bit the bullet and got a new rectifier and stator and they fixed the wiring harness.
Before that...the rectifier/stator/charging wires under the seat were burnt and the plastic wire connectors were melted through.
Now she runs right, but not after a lot of work.
