893 to 919 Shift Drums interchange??
Hello all-
I asked a bit about this a while ago but am having a new issue.
I have a 1994 893 engine and swapped in a 1996 919 shift drum. The reason I did this was to reverse the shift pattern and it worked. Except that it spits out of 4th gear. It does it under load only. It shifts well in all the other gears. Very well actually.
The shift drum I put in was used and it's possible that it was bad or that I have a bent shift fork or something. The obvious thing to do is put back in the right 893 drum but the shift linkage is set up for reverse pattern and it's better that way.
Does anyone know weather the shift drums are the same other then the reverse patterns? I want to buy a new shift drum but am wondering if I should go with a 893 drum or a 919 drum and have the better shift pattern?
By the way the engine is in a race car not a bike, hence the shift linkage issues.
Thanks,
