Default 1st bike need help with general maint.

Just bought a new 900rr.New for me I mean its a 99. Need to do oil change and brake fluid change. As well I did notice today that the coolant level is very low. I typically do all this stuff myself with my cars, however any tips or suggestions would help on dealing with a bike. Or should I just take it to the dealer.

Get yourself a Haynes or Chilton manual and do it yourself. You will save money and get to know your bike and its idiosyncrasies.

Definately a good suggestion, and definately do all the work yourself. If you can do it on a car, you can do it on a bike. Everyone will have their own preference as to what oils to use, but just use what you believe is best for you and your bike. I'm pretty sure brake fluid has to be at least DOT4, and you can drain the fluid out just as easy as in a car. Open the bleeding screw and pump it out, and bleeding is pretty much the same. I'm not sure of the exact specs on oil or coolant cause I haven't messed with it yet, but I know enough to tell you to stay away from energy conserving/car motor oil
