For my state, we do need a tire hugger.

Not sure about NY State, since you have a computer you might wanna try and locate their Dept of Transportation vehicle inspection website if they have one, you may find the answer there.

If they were required I would think theyd be standard equipment on all motorcycles

yeah, i have been to a bunch of dealerships and really never paid attention if the new bikes had these or not because at that time i wasnt in the market for a hugger. so you are saying some new bikes dont even come with huggers? if so..great. i just want to get this thing inspected and ride the damn thing!

This is funny that you posted this. I just had mine inspected this afternoon in NC for the first time. I had no idea what to expect. I have had it here for years but never bothered with the inspection. I figured if I got a ticket, I would just go get it inspected. Now they have it tied to the registration so you can't get a new sticker without passing the inspection first. He walked around it once. asked me if it had brakes. I said yes and he said that will be $13,60. LOL

I was pleasantly surprised.

me to i live in ny and just brought mine in and he didnt even look at it and gave me a sticker they can tell who is from the state or not. if your bike didnt come factory with a hugger they cant force you to have one on it. that would be like saying you own that 1920 mode t now where is the seat belts and catalitic converter.

I agree with breethwith me, If it not NOS they can't force you to have it on your bike
