Default Won't start, strange symptoms

Hello all. Brand new member, first post ever so if I'm doing anything wrong please feel free to pile on. My issue is with my 2004 CBR600RR. I bought it about 18 months ago from a military man who told me that it had been sitting in his garage for the past 6 years. The first 3 years he would start it once a week and the last 3 years he hadn't touched it. It only had 10K miles when I got it and I only paid a thousand dollars for it. Fuel tank was completely full of rust but that was about the only thing I had to do to it. I rode it only a handful of times before I decided to do a little body work on it as it had been laid down once. So I parked it in my dining room and took most of the plastic off and a few other things. I cut the wires to the rear turn signals as I plan on going back with a fender eliminator kit. Anyway, some time passes and I'm ready to reassemble it and here's where my issue comes in. As soon as I connect the battery, the small blue "brights" indicator light comes on and stays on. This is without the key even in the bike, with the switch in the off position. When I insert the key and switch to run, the instruments do nothing at all and the fuel pump doesn't prime. The headlights come on, but only the "dim" headlight, although the blue indicator remains on. The bike will crank over just fine but it never fires off, which goes without saying since the fuel pump isn't priming. I've checked the fuses and they're all good. I've also searched the internet for those symptoms but came up with nothing. My whole life my dad has been an amazing mechanic who can do absolutely anything when it comes to working on emgines, including jet engines, so he has always been my go to guy when i dont know what to do. Unfortunately, he died last week, and now I'm just really lost wothout him. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your dad.

Not sure where to start with you issue... but if it was sort of ok before you started, then it looks like you have shorted something out when either cutting the turn signals and or when removing the plastic so I would start there.

Firstly make sure none of the turn signal wires are touching anything and are appropriately terminated for now. Also check for any pinched wires around the battery area.

If that does not work, methodically work your way around the bike in the areas that you removed the plastic looking for any disturbed connectors / wiring that may also be shorted, hopefully you will find something that may point to the issue.

Cheers
Al

Thank you very much Al, for the response and for the condolences. Very much appreciated, sir. I'm going to go ahead and try all of your suggestions and I will report back with my findings. Thanks again.....

Well I'm not surprised. I had that bike sitting in my dining room for probably 6 months and for the last 2 I've been having the issue mentioned in the thread. Well, I finally moved it out to my dad's garage a few days ago but didn't do anything to it. After reading Al's suggestions I went out to the garage, connected the battery, the blue light didn't come on, put the key in and heard the fuel pump, hit the starter and it fired right up. I didn't do a single thing to it different than what I had been doing in the dining room. Only difference is that it's now in my dad's garage. Looks like the old man is still helping me out, even after death. Thanks again for the advice and taking the time my friend....
