Default what's with the catalayic converter: keep it or scrap it?

Thinking about removing the cat. Anyone know if it will be louder and will i have to adjust the air/fuel mix? why do they put these things on a race bike?

I am sure it would be louder without the cat, but I am unsure about the air/fuel mixture. I know in cars you can normally remove the cats but it will normally run rich, I am sure it would be the same in a bike. If you plan on removing it for power I highly doubt you will see any difference.

thanks for the info. I m not really worried about the power, i guess i was more or less thinking it would file out plugs. Do you normally keep them on your bikes or do you remove them?
