Yeah, I don't think you should lay down on this one. $80 isnot cheap. I'd fight the ticket.

Just yesterday my riding partner got pulled over in our small college town for not having his visor down. He was let off with a warning. He normally doesn't put it down til about 30 - 40 mph. I personally will only keep my visor up only if I have shades on or ifI'm stopped.

I'll bet the cruiser riders either had a windshield higher than the mandate or had shades on, and that the scooter guys and galls all had shades on...

What you got busted for endangering everyone else on the road what do you think would happen if a rock, or a bug, or some other flying projectile were to hit you in the eye rendering that eye useless. you'd freak out, right? you'd loose all control of your motorcycle, possibly take someone else out with you ('cuz you are goin' down) all because you didn't see it necessary to protect your eyes. That's why the law exists. if your motorcycle does not have a windshield over a certain height (in Wisconsin it's 15" or higher above the handle bars, i'm sure it's similar across the US) you're wearing eye protection AT ALL TIMES, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Now do you understand? If the heat is so unbearable, you should buy a different helmet... I wear mine everywhere in all weather conditions. hell, even when i was in Cali i didn't see what everyone was bizatching about. When it's hot in Wisconsin, it's humid as hell to boot. my head is comfortable all the time.
Slugger, ultimately you're right, but for ****'s sake, are you telling me you've never flipped your visor up. Be human for once and just agree with the guy that it sucks to get a ticket for this instead of lecturing him. He's already he already accepted responsibility for it.

I agree, it sucks to get a ticket for not having your visor down.It seems ridiculous considering the number of other stupid things you see other bikers do. The law is the law though. Surprising that they would choose to enforce this one so strictly, not even a warning.

Hmmm. Seems kind of silly to me. Florida has a no helmet law for those 21 and over but thank goodness they make you wear eye protection. You know just in case you fall on your face. At least your eyes will be ok. I guess rocks can't bounce up and hit you in the head in Florida, possibly causing a distraction leading to loss of control. I'd have a hard time not freaking out after getting hit in the forehead with a rock while traveling at 60mph. That's gotta hurt like hell.

I know a little over board but a warning in this case would of been better, in my opionion. The kid would of learned a lesson and possibly never done it again.
it's the same story with drunk drivers. you'd think they'd never do it again after getting caught once... but you'd be wrong. at least the officer has something to show for it.
To say that this is just like a repeat offending drunk driver is beyond a stretch. Next thing your going to say is that littering is is the same as 1st degree murder. There are some degrees to severity you know, it's not all black and white. An $80 ticket for having a visor up seems severe.

Congratulations! You have just experienced a new form of taxation masked in the name of your own "good".You may remember it from the time that you got a ticket for not making a complete stop and your insurance rates were raised or perhaps the time you bought a pack of cigarettes with an attached "sin" tax. As an adult I think I can decide for myself the safety measures that I choose when I ride or drive or live for that matter. I don't have a diaper that the government needs to change,..do you?

I wear a seatbelt because I choose to and I don't see how it can be legal to get a ticket for not wearing one. "Click it or Ticket" is the same sort of riff-raff that you have been caught up in.

Less Harassment/More Effective Policing - Policing should not be a business, it should be a service paid for only by your tax dollars - "Serve and Protect" sound familiar?

Ahh...I fondly remember the first time I was stopped for my clearly visible and well lit license tag repositionedover my rear tire. As I opened my wallet up he caught site of the corner of my badge, turned around and walked off without another word.

All those big words and none of that changes the fact that the person with the ticket is accountable for not complying with the law.

That is ultimately true as he is no doubt still missing his $80. I am not questioning that fact I am mearly encouraging independant thought........perhaps not so well.
