Question Tach problem

Hey everyone. This is my first post, so why not make it about the bike I just recently bought. Here's the problem: the tach seems to bounce all over the place the faster I go. At lower speed, say in the 0-40's, it doesn't really do it at all. The faster I go, the more it does it and the more severe it gets. Once you get to about 70-85, it just pegs low at zero. When you let off the throttle and coast down, it does the opposite and finally starts working again at lower speeds. Engine runs buttery smooth and power delivery is the same. Any ideas what this might be? Just a loose connection? Power commander playin' shennanigans on me? Bike is in sig. Thanks.
