Swingarm removal?
OK here's the deal. I've been looking high and low for an '07 up black swingarm but I can't seem to find one. Keeping that in mind, I would like to get mine off the bike while I'm not riding and have it powdercoated black. How do I get this thing off? How hard is it? Any help would be appreciated.
Its not really all that hard to do, a lil involved tho. You will need to buy or make a spanner socket for the locknuts on the pivot bolt. I made one and used a large allen wrench on the other side. You will need to loosen n remove the lower shock bolt, split the chain. I support my bike with front stand on the front and racket straps from the rafters on the rear. Using a front stand keeps the bike from swaying while you are working on it. Of course you will need to remove the rear wheel, and caliper.
Also remember to remove everything from the swingarm before you send/drop it off for PCing. If I think of anything else I will post up and I am sure if I forgot something others will post up.

An alternative to hanging the backend from the ceiling is using the rear set bolt holes to support the back end. I removed the rear sets and placed long bolts in one hole on each side. Then I used a rear stand to lift the backend and then put jack stands under the protruding bolts.
Another note, the swingarm pivot bearings will be destroyed by PC, so make sure the shop has a plan for keeping blasting medium out of those. When I sent mine to Tripageled.com, I didn't do anything because Tristan and company used some kind of adhesive covers over the holes. When I did another swingarm myself I used a combination of bolts, nuts, washers, and rubber washers: see my thread on 600rr.net for a picture of what I'm talking about.
