When I removed my swingarm the shock and sh** was still connected. After having the swingarm off I removed the rear shock. Didnt seem all to bad once I got it apart, just hope I dont forget how to put it all back together by the time I get my PCed parts back.

See if it's any different than your '06.
EDIT - I'm also going to PC the dog bones and sub-arm assembly...any trouble with these pieces?

RE: Swing Arm Trouble
I got mine off tonight after work and didn't have to remove the exhaust...it came out easily with the shock on it after I took out the lower shock mount bolt and the pivot shaft. I'll probably spend the next week pulling all the bearings out of the sub-arm assembly, the dog bones and the swing arm, but it'll all be worth it when they come back black!!
Here ya go Rocket, ya won't forget...

Man i really wanna get mine powder coated, I even get it for free. But there is no way I would get that back together. Post pic once you get it completed. I love the blue 04 rr

The tricky part is going to be pulling all thosebearings out of the dog bones and lower shock arm assembly. The swing arm bearings shouldn't be too bad.
FYI - I've been advised to just pull the bearings out for the pc process. Some riders on here have suggested to keep them in, and to wash the grease out. But why not just pull them, wash them outside the bike and re-grease and put back in? One of my wrenching buddies said some of those needle bearings have plastic sleeves inside them, that would melt during the pc curing process. Why risk it? I'm just gonna pull them all out, and hopefully I don't destroy them or I'll be spending a small fortune on replacement bearings. We'll see how it goes.
