Stuck between a rock & a hard place
Recently in an accident, not my fault, but the insurance is totalling my bike (2005 cbr 600rr)
I'm supposed to call and tell them tomorrow if I want to buy it back from them or just look for another one.
If I buy it back it'll be $2600 and I'll get a check from roughly 1500 which I could do, it needs a new front plastic piece and all the foot pegs and shifter on the left side, the $1500 would be cutting it close but it would have a salvaged title.
OR, I know a guy with a 2004 cbr 1000rr, $4500, 14k miles, CLEAN AS A WHISTLE (he's one of the mechanics at a local dealer, why would it not be in tip top shape??) gorgeous bike! My only concern is it's a 1000... As of today I've my 600rr for an entire year and was riding a 250 3 yrs prior to that. I have the experience but knowing all that power is at my fingertips scares me, I like to show off at times, but for the past year have been able to handle the 600 with no problem (mind you accident was not my fault).
Or I can play it safe, keep the money, be bikeless for who knows how long and wait for another 600 to come along.
Thoughts, opinions? Everyone I've talked to so far says the salvage title isn't worth it but they understand I love my bike to pieces, but at the same time, I have a great deal in front of me and a chance to go buy a new toy... I'm torn.

If you're unsure enough to be asking, move on. Unless you really, really have put a lot
of special wrench-time into your old bike, it's just a bike. I would go for the clean
machine and enjoy your time on the road. If your old bike was down hard enough to
total, there will always be the question of hidden stress/damage lurking in the
background. Yeah, there's a certain penache to re-building the old bike, but if you
were truly the type, you wouldn't be asking for a second opinion.
Keep the photo's and memories, and start collecting new ones.
As far as the difference between 600 and a 1000...
If, after 3 years, you haven't taken the opportunity to kill yerself with the power
available on your 600, I'd say you have/have developed the maturity to exercise
throttle control on the grand.
Good luck, whichever way you decide, Ern
