Default ? Stripped Stator cover Screw

Ok, so.. I've recently had to replace my stator cover. End'd up stripping one of the screw ins where you .. screw the bolt in...

any who, I had a friend order a heli coil set (spelling check) .. in hopes of drilling out the old stripped screw place n inserting a new coil that will return the screw in back to factory size ... however they sent me the wrong size coil set..

the hole is already drilld out ready to be tappd for a new coil.

DOES any one have any info or has any one else run into this same problem with stripping one any of the stator bolt screw ins...

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.. IM STUCK as of now..

thanks

So did you drill it out for the new heli coil which was the wrong size? I am guessing to large?

I am helping Chu Noh work on his bike. I didn't drill out the stripped threads yet. I was told by a NAPA rep that the bolt was a 8mm x .10 thread and orded the Heli-cCil kit for that size. That size I orderd is to big. We are wondering if anyone has had this problem and hopefully would know what size threads we need. I know we can't be the first with thie problem and we were hoping some one one the forum might know what size Heli-Coil kit we need.

I believe I found my answer. There is a cool web site called BoltDepot.com. The link below is to their site that has all kinds of great information for figuring out the size of all types of fasteners. http://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-in...n/Default.aspx

By the way the bolt size that retains both side covers on 03-06 CBR600RR engines is 6mm x 1.0. I am willing to bet that this bolt size is the same one used on the recent 1000RR too. Just to be sure to reference the above link and double check your bolt size so you don't waist needless time and money ordering the wrong size like I did.

For those members who don't know, if you strip the threads anywhere on your bike it can most often be fixed with using a Heli-Coil kit or similar threaded coil insert kit of a different brand. Google Heli-Coil if you have no idea what I am talking about.

Good luck to all!
